TERMS AND CONDITIONS

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

These 'Terms and Conditions' relate to all services provided by Psychology South Essex

Confidentiality

The content of discussions between our clinicians and clients is strictly private and confidential, and no information will be discussed with others without explicit consent. The only exception to this would be if we assessed there to be a significant risk of harm to the client or another person. In these circumstances there is a legal duty to break confidentiality in order to contact an appropriate third party with the relevant information. We would only do this after careful consideration, and would discuss this with the client whenever possible.

For clients who are using private medical insurance, written progress reports may be expected for authorisation of treatment. Your referrer will usually request your written permission for information to be disclosed.

We are required by our professional guidelines to undertake clinical supervision, where we discuss our clinical work. This is undertaken with another qualified Clinical Psychologist, and ensures that our work is of a high standard. However, steps are undertaken to maintain anonymity of cases discussed during this process.

Data protection

Recording and storage of personal information will comply with the Data Protection Act (1998), which requires organisations that process personal information to register with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Information will be kept securely and solely for clinical purposes. Any documents held electronically will be password protected.

Ethical and professional practice

Clinical Psychologists are required to follow strict professional guidelines from the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). Regular clinical supervision with a suitably qualified clinical psychologist ensures a high standard of professional and reflective practice.

If you have any concerns or complaints at any stage, please discuss these directly wherever possible. If there are more serious concerns or complaints, these can be directed to the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC).

Cancellation

There are occasions when you may need to cancel an appointment at short notice. If appointments are cancelled more than 24 hours in advance, no charge will be made. Late cancellations or nonattendance will be charged at the full rate (unless in exceptional circumstances). Please note that private medical insurance may not cover the costs of missed sessions. If you are late to a session you will be charged for the full hour.

In the unlikely event that one of our clinicians has to cancel your appointment, they will endeavour to give as much notice as possible and to reschedule promptly.

Emergencies and crises

The type of psychological work offered is not suited to managing emergencies. If you require immediate help or support between appointments then please contact your GP, use the NHS 111 service for advice, or attend A+E in an emergency. Please see the contacts page for numbers which may be helpful in this situation.
