‘You are not the problem, the problem is the problem’. We believe that when it comes to your own life, you are the expert. Narrative therapy is a uniquely collaborative and a non-pathologising therapeutic approach that focusses on abilities and resources in our lives.
Unfortunately, all too often, our problems take centre stage in our lives, and our strengths and talents do not make their way into the way we think about ourselves. Narrative therapy aims to help people realise or re-discover their inherent strengths, and encourages people to learn to rely on their own skill sets to minimize the problems that exist in their everyday lives.
Therefore, the focus is not on ‘experts’ solving problems, it is on people co-discovering through conversations, the preferred, and previously unrecognized and hidden possibilities contained within themselves and on connecting to hope through them.
